Consider these four add-ons during your next furnace installation

Upgrading and installing a furnace is a big, costly project, so ensure you’re maximizing your comfort, improving your energy efficiency and extending the life of your furnace with four simple add-ons that can be easily incorporated into your new furnace installation.

  • A programmable thermostat is one of the simplest devices you can install to help with energy efficiency. Lowering your home by just a few degrees at night or when you’re out at work for the day can result in some serious cash savings every month.  Once installed and programmed the thermostat will automatically adjust the temperature of your home based on your heating needs.
  • If the temperature of your home varies from room to room or if individuals desire different temperatures in different rooms, installing a zoning system is the perfect solution. A zoning system is pretty simple. Multiple thermostats are wired to a control panel, so you can set the perfect temperature in each of your allocated zones. When used properly, a zoning system will save you money on your energy bills and ensure that your house is perfectly heated.
  • Opt for a high-quality air filter to ensure you and your family are breathing the best air. Air filters are responsible for catching dust, debris, allergens and even mold spores, so they are an important piece of your furnace system. We recommend installing an air filter that is at least 1 or 2 inches thick, pleated and boasting a MERV rating of 5 to 8. If you have any special air quality concerns, you may also want to consider an ultraviolet light germicidal filtration system.
  • If you find the air in your home is dry during the long winter months, or if you use a portable humidifier to get you through the winter, you may want to install a whole-house humidifier. The humidifier will be installed directly into your heating system and controlled by your thermostat. Adding a bit of moisture in your home will make you feel warmer at lower temperatures, protect your home and contents, and reduce the spread of certain viruses that thrive in dry climates.
